Balaji Telefilms Launches Ganesha iPhone App

There is an iPhone app for everything – even religion now.

Production house, Balaji Telefilms, has launched its first iPhone application named ‘Ganesha Stories’ under its New Media initiative.

The Ganesha iPhone application allows consumers to have access to the Elephant God on the move. Aartis and stories revolving around Lord Ganesha are available at the click of a button featuring famous names in playback singing.

Balaji Telefilms Ltd. – New Media division was set up to expand and capitalize on its creative and production facilities to cover the mobile and internet space. The division is poised for a significant play on the 3G platforms in the future.

Reliance communication launch push mail service through SMS`

Telecom majors Tata Teleservices and Reliance Communications on Wednesday announced the launch of a SMS-based email service across their networks in the country to generate more revenues from Value Added Services.

Both the operators are launching the service in alliance with iseemedia, a Canadian software development company, on both GSM and CDMA platforms.

‘Push 4 All Mail’ by TTSL will help for Tata Indicom and Tata Docomo customers access Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo emails on any type of handset through short messaging services, TTSL said in a statement.

It would eliminate the need for expensive data plans or high-end phones to receive emails and rich attachments and clients would not have to worry about device capability.

“This is a revolutionary service that will change the way people communicate. Customers will have to no longer worry whether their handsets are GPRS/BREW-enabled or not since Push 4 All Mail is a ubiquitous service that will provide hassle free easy to use email service on SMS,” TTSL AVP (VAS – New Products Development) Zubin Dubash said. TTSL users would be charged Rs 15 per month and 50 paise for every SMS sent.

RCom will offer the email service to its prepaid and postpaid users at a subscription fee of Rs 30 and a usage tariff of 50 paise per SMS sent. “iseemedia receives a percentage of revenue from every user transaction,” RCom said in a separate statement.

“We believe our push email service can deliversubstantial revenue upside over the years to RCom,” RCom Head (VAS) Krishna Durbha said.

Samsung Dual Sim Touchscreen B5722 in India

Samsung has announced the launch of latest touchscreen handset, the B5722 in India. The device happens to be the first touchscreen from the company to support two SIM cards. The phone will also be known as the B5722 DUOS.

The phone boasts of features like a decent 3.2 mega pixel camera, 30 MB memory (expandable to 8 GB with SD card) and a very respectable 14 hours of talk and a 20 day standby time. The B5722 is a GSM+GSM dual SIM phone and the user will be able to use two GSM SIM cards in a single phone. Users can switch from one SIM to another without having to switch off the handset.

Let’s now take a look at the other features of the device. Being a touchscreen device, it runs Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI atop Samsung’s OS. It supports various IM platforms for social networking and has FM radio as well. It also comes loaded with an advanced mobile tracking software that will help you locate your phone in case it is stolen. The B5722 boasts of an updated version of the mobile tracking software. The new version can actually track the location of your cellphone within the radius of a few miles.

The B5722 has a 2.8 inch QVGA screen that can display 262k colors. It also boasts of Samsung’s DnSE sound engine, ensuring high music playback ability. The 30MB of internal memory can be expanded with the help of microSD cards. It supports GPRS class10 and EDGE class 10. 3G support is however missing. Bluetooth happens to be the only short-range wireless connectivity
option.

The Samsung B5722 DUAL SIM has been priced at Rs. 11,680 and is now on sale.

Mobile number portability delayed

The government will introduce mobile number portability across the country by March 31, 2010, pushing back its introduction by up to 3 months in parts of the country, the government said in a statement on Thursday.

Mobile Number Portability (MNP), which allows users to retain their number even if they switch operators, was to be introduced in metro cities and the so-called Category A telecom zones from Dec. 31, and in other areas by March 20, 2010.

“The government has now decided to implement it in whole of the country in one go, by 31st March 2010,” the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said in the statement.
